Lituya bay mega tsunami1/26/2024 Most landslides that fall into the water do not produce large tsunamis because only about 4 percent of the energy from the rockfall is transferred to the water to form waves in these events. The size of the tsunami produced by this landslide was exceptional, being eight times higher than the next highest known landslide- or rockfall-induced tsunami from a Norwegian fjord. A 100-170-foot- (30-51-m-) high tsunami was generated that moved at 96-130 miles per hour (155-210 km/hr) out toward the mouth of the bay, erasing shoreline features along its path and shooting a fishing troller out of the bay into open water. To be investigating the possibilities of tsunami hazards in the bay. It washed over Cenotaph Island in the middle of the bay, destroying a government research station and killing two geologists stationed there who happened This splash reached heights that were three times deeper than the water in the bay. The first wave (really a splash) soared up to 1,720 feet (524 m) on the opposite side of the bay, removing trees and soil with the force of the wave and the backwash. The wave generated by this massive collapse was enormous. The force of the impact of the rockfall was so great that it tore off the outer 1,300 feet (400 m) of Lituya Glacier and threw it high into the air (an observer at sea reported seeing the glacier rise above the surrounding ridges). This material landed in the water at the head of Lituya Bay and created a huge semicircular crater 800 feet (250 m) across, circling the rockfall. The earthquake sent a huge mass of rock plunging into the water below, released from about 3,000 feet (900 m) up the cliffs near the head of the bay next to Lituya Glacier. In some locations, ground accelerations in a horizontal direction exceeded twice the force of gravity and approached the force of gravity in the vertical direction. The ground surface was displaced by up to 3.5 feet (1.1 m) vertically and 20 feet (6.3 m) horizontally in Crillon and Lituya Bays. on July 9, 1958, a magnitude 7.9-8.3 earthquake struck the region along the Fair-weather fault 13 miles (20.8 km) Southeast of the bay. The rocks surrounding the bay are part of the Pacific plate, and the Fairweather fault, the boundary between the Pacific and North American Plates, lies just inboard of the bay.Īt 10:15 p.m. As the fjord is a glacially carved valley, it has a rounded floor under the sea, with a depth of only 720 feet (220 m). ![]() Forest-covered mountains rise 6,000 feet (1,800 m) out of the water. The glaciers are rapidly retreating, a rock spit known as La Chausse spit blocks the entrance to the bay, and a large island, Cenotaph Island, rests in the center of the fjord. ![]() Lituya Bay is located about 150 miles (240 km) southeast of Juneau and is a steep-sided, seven-mile-(11-km-) long, glacially carved fjord with T-shaped arms at the head of the bay where the Lituya and Cril-lon Glaciers flow down to the sea. One of the largest-known landslide-induced tsunamis struck Lituya Bay of southeastern Alaska on July 9, 1958.

Lumen tysons sitemap1/26/2024 ![]() ![]() More importantly, the interpretation of these observations is complicated by the lack of comparison to samples obtained from asymptomatic children living under the same conditions. While this study reported an association between growth faltering and damage to the upper small intestine, the involvement of other gut sites remains unknown. One study reported increased gut permeability and inflammation markers in duodenal biopsies obtained from Gambian infants with growth faltering compared to those obtained from healthy children living in the United Kingdom 9. In addition, few studies have investigated diarrheal disease-induced damage within the gut itself. Additional studies are needed to determine the role of these newly identified pathogens in the cycle of diarrheal disease, malnutrition, and growth faltering. More recent studies have begun to identify a set of non-traditional pathogens, especially in the genus Campylobacter, that are missed by clinical tests but highly abundant in developing countries 24, 25, 26. ![]() This pattern is likely a combination of high pathogen burden in the absence of symptoms 19, 20, 21 and the use of clinical tests that limit detection of novel pathogens not routinely detected 22, 23. Specifically, multiple large-scale international studies have found that less than 50% of diarrheal cases can be attributed to a specific pathogen 19, 20. Moreover, unknown and emerging etiological agents are thought to play an underappreciated role in childhood diarrheal disease and growth faltering. These subclinical infections are believed to perpetuate intestinal damage and restrict healthy growth 18. Indeed, growth faltering children in developing countries have been shown to have a significant enteric pathogen burden without acute disease 14, 16, 17. This cycle can occur even in the absence of overt diarrhea 14, 15. Specifically, diarrhea results in a dangerous feedback loop of malnutrition 3, 4, 5, 6 and intestinal damage 3, 7, 8, which ultimately leads to growth faltering, poor responses to oral vaccination 9, 10, 11, 12, and diminished resilience to subsequent enteric infections 13. In addition to high mortality rates, diarrhea early in life can have a lasting effect on host physiology 2. Our studies provide valuable insight into the outcomes of diarrheal diseases and growth faltering not attainable in humans and lays the groundwork to test interventions in a controlled and reproducible setting.ĭespite significant improvements in healthcare delivery and sanitation, over 500,000 children under the age of 5 die of diarrheal disease every year 1. We also detected a functional and taxonomic shift in the luminal microbiome across multiple gut sites including the migration of Streptococcus and Prevotella species between the small and large intestine, suggesting a decompartmentalization of gut microbial communities. Moreover, polyclonal stimulation of colonic lamina propria leukocytes resulted in a dampened cytokine response, indicative of immune exhaustion. We show that growth faltering in the presence or absence of active diarrhea is associated with a heightened systemic and mucosal pro-inflammatory state centered in the colon. ![]() Here, we examined intestinal biopsies, lamina propria leukocytes, luminal contents, and fecal samples from healthy infants and those experiencing growth faltering with distant acute or chronic active diarrhea. Infant rhesus macaques are naturally susceptible to human enteric pathogens and recapitulate the hallmarks of diarrheal disease such as intestinal inflammation and growth faltering. Despite the impact of childhood diarrhea on morbidity and mortality, our understanding of its sequelae has been significantly hampered by the lack of studies that examine samples across the entire intestinal tract. Chiefs roster 20071/26/2024 ![]() Following a dismal 22–21 loss to the Chargers, a game in which Kansas City allowed two touchdowns and lost an 11-point lead in the game's final minutes, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt announced the resignation of General Manager/Vice President/CEO Carl Peterson effective at the end of the season. The team lost seven games by 7 points or less, two games by 24-point margins, suffered a 34–0 shut-out to the Carolina Panthers, and allowed a franchise-worst 54 points against the Buffalo Bills. ![]() The Chiefs' 2008 season began with a franchise-worst 1–10 record (which would later be matched with the team's 2012 season), with the franchise losing a team record 20 of 21 games over a two-year period. īeginning with the 2008 season, the team's Lamar Hunt/ American Football League tribute patch which was introduced in the 2007 season became a permanent part of the Chiefs' uniform. Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt had expressed his expectations of a winning Chiefs team earning a playoff berth in 2008. Peterson and Edwards were considered to be safe unless absolutely zero progress was made in 2008. įollowing the Chiefs' dismal 2007 season, head coach Herman Edwards and general manager Carl Peterson were considered to be on the hot seat. The Chiefs won their first game with the new offense against the Raiders in Week 13. The Chiefs scored more than 10 points just twice in their first six games, but scored more offensive points than that in every game since, and twice topped 25 points. His passer rating climbed from 44.3 to 76.9 in the five games following his initial start at Atlanta. Prior to the Chiefs implementing the spread offense, Thigpen had been playing erratically with the Chiefs, and he suddenly became poised and effective running the new offense. The Chiefs made a huge gamble by doing so, as most in the NFL believe that a spread offense cannot work in professional football, and also head coach Herman Edwards was traditionally in favor of more conservative, run-oriented game plans. The Chiefs implemented the spread offense to help Thigpen play to the best of his abilities and also following the absence of RB Larry Johnson due to suspension. The Chiefs reorganized their offense to focus around Croyle, but his season-ending injury in Week 7 led to a new spread offense gameplan focused around Tyler Thigpen. The Chiefs' final 2-14 record was the worst in franchise history however the team's 2012 season would repeat this futility.Įntering the season, the Chiefs were unsure if injury-prone quarterback Brodie Croyle could be their quarterback of the future. The Chiefs failed to improve on their 4-12 record from 2007 with the youngest team in the NFL as part of their "youth movement." The season turned out to be the worst in the franchise's history, by tallying 14 losses for the first time ever. The 2008 Kansas City Chiefs season was the franchise's 49th season, and third with head coach Herman Edwards at the helm. Developer raycast 15m series1/26/2024 ![]() The investment will be used to double down on building Raycast’s community of developers and tools, accelerate platform growth and, for the first time, bring Raycast to teams. ![]() Raycast was founded in 2020 by former Facebook software engineers Thomas Paul Mann (CEO) and Petr Nikolaev (CTO), who wanted to recover the time developers lose every day due to continuous context-switching between different SaaS tools. Raycast makes it easy, fast and delightful for developers to find and update information with its command line inspired interface, enabling automation of day-to-day processes and tasks, and allowing them to focus on the work that matters. In just 12 months, Raycast has quickly gained traction and grown its daily active user base from 130 in October 2020 to over 11,000 to date, with more than 20 million actions performed on the platform in that time. It also launched its Extensions API and Store in public beta, giving developers the ability to build custom extensions in less than 30 minutes and share them with their team or community to speed up common tasks. In just one month, the community built more than 100 extensions on the beta, connecting to services like Figma, GitHub, Chrome, Notion, YouTube, Twitter and many more. Today, Raycast is publicly launching the Extensions API and Store, opening it up to developers around the world and enabling the creation of a truly global ecosystem of productivity tools. ![]() Raycast intends to use today’s funding to double down on building its community of developers and tools, accelerate growth on the platform and, for the first time, bring Raycast to teams. While still heavily focused on individual developers, Raycast sees huge potential in making it easy to share productivity tools and workflows with others and believes this is especially applicable within teams. From today, companies will be able to sign up for an early access programme to new team features. ![]() This will grant them the ability to create their own internal store, where they can build and distribute custom extensions, links and snippets specific to the needs of the team. “We’ve been blown away by the response from our community since launching in public beta,” says Raycast CEO Thomas Paul Mann. “It’s always been our goal to create a platform and developer community based around productivity and with today’s funding and the public launch of our API and Store, we believe we’re well on our way to achieving that. Our community jumped on the API when it was in public beta, and we can’t wait to see what custom extensions they will build in the months to come. We’re also incredibly excited to, for the first time, grant early access to our new team features, and we hope it can make building and distributing internal tools even easier for businesses as well as individuals.” “Since leading Raycast’s seed investment, we’ve been impressed with the growth and traction Raycast has seen in the developer community,” says Andrei Brasoveanu, Partner at Accel. We’re delighted to continue supporting Thomas and Petr on their ambitious journey.” “This backs up our initial belief that Raycast has the potential to become an indispensable tool for developers, and we’re excited to see the team go even further with the launch of the API and Store and expansion to teams. “We’re excited to be co-leading Raycast’s Series A,” says David Cahn, Partner at Coatue. “Too many developers are losing time that could be spent on core work because they’re jumping between non-coding tasks or searching for information across different SaaS tools. We feel Raycast offers a powerful platform for developers to speed up common tasks. Arcmap raster calculator pick1/25/2024 ![]() ![]() This often takes longer than the method described above, as creating a point feature class requires some processing time.Using drone imagery I've found that the Image Classification toolbar in ArcGIS gives very good results using a supervised Maximum likelihood approach. As such the first instance of this can be removed, to leave just fields for x, y and z.Īn alternative method would be to export the raster to a point feature class, add xy values, and export the attribute table to a DBF. Because you used the same raster for both input parameters the z value field is duplicated. Open the DBF in a spreadsheet application like Microsft Excel (make sure you don’t have it open in ArcMap at the same time) to rename the columns as required and save the file in CSV or ASCII format for importing into your interpretation application. Once complete, a DBF table should have been created.ġ3. Depending on the size of area being exported, the tool may take a little time to run. Click on the ‘ Environments’ button at the bottom of the dialog.ĩ. Before running the conversion, you can alter a couple of settings to ensure you export exactly what you want. Turn on the ‘Spatial Analyst’ extension from the ‘Customize > Extension’ menu.Ģ. You wish to export part of the raster to another application – you can do this using an xyz format file, as follows:ġ. Let’s assume you have a fairly coarse SRTM raster in ArcMap, along with some DECC onshore licence blocks giving context (in this case, the South Wales coal basin). In this blog I’ll demonstrate how to export SRTM elevation data (stored in raster format in ArcGIS) to a table containing x,y and z values of the centre points of the cells, which can then be imported into another application. All it requires is the ArcGIS Spatial Analyst extension, one of several ArcGIS Desktop extensions that extend the base functionality. Since only so much subsurface analysis and interpretation can be done in GIS, getting these rasters into other applications, like GeoFrame, Petrel and Petromod, is important to give wider context to seismic, well and other subsurface data.įortunately, you can do this data transfer without expensive ‘middleware’ applications.
